What Is SoCiMa

Some might pronounce it S0...Ci...Ma, but is that correct? Is it some kind of ritual chant? Or is this a spell to promote good luck in all endeavours? Well it's none of those, unfortunately but, to put it simply and to highlight its truly elegant meaning:
It's the coming together of minds where individuals from Social, Ethical & Cultural backgrounds bind. A SoCietY where right & wrong have no place, difference is embraced. Opinions are shared, contemplation sets in. An enlightenment of minds through the embracement of the visual arts
We know, we know, it sounds like a "visualisation of an open-minded, non-judgmental, artistic heaven", right? However, this is the inspiration for SoCiMa®. We love films and documentaries; we love the visual arts, but most of all, we love to discuss ideas and opinions on what the director is trying to show us, how to interpret the inner meaning of the visual experience, to watch the actors give their best performances and make us feel a part of the visual experience. How many times have you cried, laughed, shouted and screamed and at the end, all those experiences are bottled up inside, all those emotions and thoughts about whether you ‘got it'. Did you understand? Hell yeah — but are you sure?
The question is, "Did you get it?" Did you understand? Hell yeah — but are you sure? Did the director or the actor throw you off track? You know the scene when the car veered right into the.................. (No spoilers please), but you get the picture. The best way to challenge your perception is to debate and decide with others, like minded individuals who have a passion and desire for the visual arts.

So let's examine the scene. Silence now: SoCiMaology Take One, Scene One and Action!

Ok picture this: you've seen the adverts and now you've made up your mind you're going to the movies with or without friends (most of the time they're too busy and fair enough); however, you're going and you book your single ticket and attend. You queue and collect your single ticket. Any beverages? Ok one large (greedy) popcorn and some (full fat) Coca-Cola plus a full bag of M&M's (greedy, greedy). You walk the lonely walk all by yourself to cinema 3 and you take your lonely seat and now you watch (you feel all the emotions which the film brings out of you, but they're bottled up inside, silently, as you're in a movie theatre — sssshhhhhhhhh). Then the film ends and you get up and proceed to leave the cinema however...
Now the movie has ended you have two potential scenarios to play out and let's play them both out.

SoCiMaology Take One, Scene Two and Action

Scene 1
You love the film and want to share all your emotions with other viewers but they are all strangers and you feel like a crazy person if you walk up to a stranger and say, "Hey man, did you feel the rush when he pulled out the flag and waved it in his boss's face. Woo, that's what I'm talking about, boom". And you know what's going to happen next — the stranger looks at you with a gaze and walks or runs away. Now you feel like the person you didn't want to be, you guessed it — the crazy man who can't control himself — and you go home.
Scene 2
You love the film; however, this time you attend a SoCiMaSoCietY event after you experience the cinematic euphoria and you can share your thoughts and opinions with others (we call you SoCiMables not strangers) and you get to open up without fear of someone running away (sounds cool right, I know, I know, you can thank us later). You feel brilliant, on top of the world, king of the land, person of the year. You get to meet like-minded people who share your passion for cinematics, share your opinions and you get to discuss a different perspective and make new SoCiMable friends.
Now be honest, which scenario would you rather play out? We look forward to seeing you at all our events so remember to check SoCiMa Screenings for both our cinematic choices and venue locations.

Remember: in all things #BeSoCiMable.
